US or UN is there a difference?

Postby KnightTemplar on Tue Oct 06, 2009 11:40 am

Many people, especially here in the U.S., see the UN as an organization that is much like a toothless, declawed cat. It faced serious ridicule recently when dealing with North Korea and it's missile launches, by basically saying "you are bad, and if you do it again we will say you are bad again."

Recently though, the U.S. seems to be on the same boat. This article seems to suggest that any "threats" the U.S. makes are just threats of more threats and aren't backed by anything.
"Superior training and superior weaponry have, when taken together, a geometric effect on overall military strength. Well-trained, well-equipped troops can stand up to many more times their lesser brethren than linear arithmetic would seem to indicate."

Completely agree with you on that one.

And that is exactly what we will do here in the United States. Iran will continue to explore nuclear weapons technology, and they will test fire one before we ever even begin to write an email to the President of Iran telling him that he is in "trouble". Even after that, we will still do nothing...maybe just stop supplying peanut butter and pop-tarts as an export to Iran. Iran will become a country capable of launching a nuclear weapon, if they are not already. It will be the same deal then as we are right not with North Korea. One day they will be willing to let inspectors in, and the next they won't.

The last time I checked, I was under the impression that they were not letting us in. I will check again though. If you find a link, post it on here Hobilar.

The Washington representative of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Andrew Semmel, told an audience an audience on Capitol Hill yesterday that the agency's planned Oct. 25 inspection could come too late.

"One has to be somewhat suspicious. It gives three weeks for the Iranians to clean up anything they might want to hide," he said, "They've been known to do this in the past, whitewashing and so forth."

We do get to send inspectors in, after they have cleaned everything up and moved any questionable things out. It reminds me of the "Health and Safety Inspections" in the residence halls in college. They give you a week to clean up and hide any contraband, we had even gone the whole semester with no Fire Extinguisher by making a deal with friends on a different floor who lent us theirs after their inspection was over. One can only imagine how much you can hide in a country the size of Iran.

Yes, SHAME on the UN (and the US) if we ever try to actually DO something about these Actual Threats!
Every body hates war out there but to the extent where us "bullies" cannot even stop it and/or annihilation!
Really SAD!
