Why would you want to join the Army?

Postby Maximus the Destroyer on Sun Feb 08, 2009 12:51 pm

I found this on MpSpace U.S. Army. This is another reason we have the best military force in the world and why they are worth our support.

I was having a conversation with a friend when I was approached by this couple who overheard us. "Why would you want to join the Army?"

I looked these people in the eye and said. "I want to join the Army to serve my country, and protect those I love and care about."

They looked at me with this dumb-founded look on their faces. After exchanging a glance at each other the other asked me "Are you really that eager to die?"

After a quick thought I replied "I am not eager to die. If I happen to die at least I know that I died protecting the people I love and care about."

"Are these people you love and care about really worth dying for!?" They shot back in unison.

"If I didn't think them worthy, I wouldn't swear to give my life to protect them!" I shouted angrly.

Taking a step back. They nodded and replied "Well if you are that serious about it go then. However don't expect us to support you."

"Whether or not I am supported in my decision or not makes no difference what so ever. I will do this, becuase I feel that it is the right thing to do. No one can change my mind." I retaliated. Looking at them with peircing eyes as if looking into their souls.

My friend decided it was time for us to go. She put her hand on my shoulder and said in a pleasant voice. "I think we should go now."

When I looked at her she read my face. Knowing that I wasn't done yet she squeezed my shoulder. With fire in her eyes she scolded. "It is time to go. There is no need to cause a scene."

Knowing that trying to resist would have proved useless I agreed.
I have learned to choose my battles, and that any battle with her I would lose.

Later on she told me, "You know that I will support you what ever you choose to do."

"You know that you are one of my best friends, and that I will always care about you. I thank you for your support it shall give me strength." With tears swelling up in my eyes I hugged her tightly. Into her ear I whispered "I will survive, and I will come back. If only to see you again."

A perfect example of what soldiers fight for. Whether it is for the country as a whole, moral values, or for the safety and freedom of a loved one...they enlist to fight for those reasons.

Let's get on to the subject of the individuals who chose to respond with "no support".

People have died in the United States and other countries in order for citizens to have that right to say "I will not support you", and not be damned by the government. Unfortunately, they have every right to use those words. But I think it is time that some of these bull-headed people start showing some respect for the ones who enlist to fight, and maybe lose their lives.

That is Very Moving, I can feel the Sincerity of that Situation and would Also have been Angered to the Boiling Point...

If all people can think about is DIEing "By Joining any Military Branch" in my opinion it shows "Loyality to your Country", Obviously these people arent loyal to anything but the "Fear of Death". Only Cowards Fear Death, and those who can not Appreciate the Value of Serving in the Service!! In my perspective Loyality, Honor are superior traits that made this Country so Great.

Loyality and or Patriotism is a dieing Charictersitic of "American Values" and its sad, this is without a doubt the very Example of that!!

I am very patriotic without a Doubt, I fly a Flag in my Home, AT WORK, and on my Clothes such as lapels or pins. I love the American Flag, Its people, and the Very Nation that Binds Red White and Blue to the Extreme!!

God Bless this Country and the Blood Spilled to Keep America Great, and to the TROOPS my Deepest Respect and Admiration!!! B)
I detest life-insurance agents; they always argue that I shall some day die, which is not so.
