First the cool

Then the idiotic:

Who thought this would be a good idea?

Well, it's not the first awkward thing I've seen like this. I've seen cell phone towers that looked like 200 foot white pines before.

Cell towers are better disguised as trees. As a pilot, I would object to "invisible" towers.

Yes, that would tend to pose some problems

What would possess someone to do this?

Would that be a military project, or a civilian one just using the camo??

Well I'm sure that it could be both. I would expect it more to be a military project more than a civilian. But I would imagine that if a private company like Verizon would want digi-camo to hide their cell towers, I bet they could get a hold of some material. But like I said before, I've seen towers which look like white pines, and I forgot to mention that I've been seeing a lot of silo's (looks just like a storage silo for corn or grain) which are radio or cell towers. So it wouldn't surprise me if this was a civilian project.

From the article...
Invisible Towers (See: Invisible Towers).has acquired an exclusive license from HyperStealth to wrap cellular towers within the United States with HyperStealth Camouflage patterns using the HyperStealth "Consealment™" 3M Printed Adhesive Vinyl. In 2007 Invisible Towers won an industry wide award for Innovation after wrapping two towers in 2006 with HyperStealth Consealment Camouflage to meet regulatory and/or community approval.

The four color HyperStealth Cloudcam version used on the Baltimore cellular tower uses White, Tan, Gray and Sky Blue as the only concealment required is for the variable sky conditions.

Looks like a civilian project to me.
I detest life-insurance agents; they always argue that I shall some day die, which is not so.
