Carrier Documentary on PBS

Postby General Forestry on Sun May 04, 2008 8:23 pm

Last week I watched the first couple of episodes of 'Carrier' on PBS. From what I gathered, it was extremely interesting how people lived on a floating city for weeks at a time. Some parts were real drags, while others were pretty entertaining. My friend's father used to be in the Navy, and spent many years of his life under the ocean in a nuclear sub. He has also experienced some time on battle cruisers and a carrier as well. He told me that he was disappointed at the fact that a lot of the images shown on that documentary were extremely over-dramatic. I was shocked. His reasons were because they focused mainly on the people who cause trouble or become a nuisance on the ship regularly. So, I am more interested now into what the life is like on a carrier out a sea, during the Iraq war. Is there anyone on this site who can fill me in? My buddy's dad filled me in on a lot of what sea-life was like back in his day (a lot of information he is still not allowed to share with anyone even after being retired from the Navy for 20+ years). So, if anyone on here who has been in active duty at sea during this war, please, feel free to inform. I'm more interested in every-day tasks, surprises, fun-times, down-times, party-times, etc.
