Military Power

For those of you that never served in the military, when you enlist (regardless of branch) you incur an eight year service obligation. While you may serve only 3,4,5 or 6 years of active duty you still have some remaining military obligation. Some people join the National Guard and some join an active reserve unit. But most do neither. These former service member are place in the inactive reserve for their remaining obilgation and are subject to recall by their respective service.

My son got out of the Army last year. His wife is still in and is stationed at Ft. Lewis, WA. They just bought a new house and have a 20 month old son. She has been alerted that her unit is scheduled for deployment to Iraq in September.

Why tell you this? About two weeks ago we received orders for our son from RCPAC recalling him to active duty in support on Enduring Freedom for a period not to exceed 400 days. In other words he is to report to South Carolina on June 14th for deployment to Afganistan.

That means they will both be gone, house empty and either us or her parents caring for our grandson. Our son and grandson will be here the week of 6-13 June before he leave. I will keep you all posted as things develop.
