Karma

Postby KnightTemplar on Wed Aug 01, 2007 7:12 am

Hello everyone. Some of you may have noticed a thing called "Karma" in the profiles under each persons name. This is something I want to try out for a little bit and see how it works out. What it is for is to reward those you think have made significant contributions to the site, or "punish" those that you feel are just "goofing around". Basically, if you like a post someone made and think that it adds a lot to the discussion here on the forum you can add to their Karma, if you think that they are not contributing, being aggravating, ect you can decrease their Karma. You can only do this (add to or take away from) once every 84 hours, so choose wisely. Also, so that this isn't abused, and so people know why they had Karma added or removed, you are required to post a comment telling why you have done so. Admins are not affected by the 84 hour rule, so if there are multiple people they can address each one, and can correct any abuse of the system that may occur. Lastly, anyone may have their Karma changed, but to add to or take away from someone's Karma you have to have made at least 25 posts (again to keep it from being abused).

Let me know what you think about it.

I'm probably going to end up with a negative Karma...
People always like to ignore, the ugly bits of history...

Seen it, but it appears that it isn't used very often as not many people seem to have any Karma at all.

If I haven't gotten negative Karma yet, you would be hard pressed to do so.

(If you haven't noticed, I tend to post some of the more, shall we say, controversial, topics on here.)

Karma is now starting to become more important since some of the Awards are now relying on it. I want to encourage those who can give Karma to do so, but to do so responsibly (not just giving or taking whenever you can, but when you find something truly worthy.

Negative Karma should be reserved for Flagrant disregard of rules, someone who is continually offensive to other members, thread hijacking, useless posts ("me too" for instance with no additional comments).

I have yet to see anyone on here deserving of negative Karma.

That's good to hear. Hopefully people will understand that though.
