Iraq vs Vietnam

Ok, I saw an interesting comparison of Iraq and Vietnam and would like to see what you think about it and see if you have any other (either similarities or otherwise)

Vietnam:
U.S. was in a struggling economy and facing a fuel shortage. While militarily the U.S. hadn't "lost" many (if any) battles the media focused on the American deaths and inundated the home population with American casualties thus causing the civilian population to cause the war to be lost.

Iraq:
U.S. is in a struggling economy and facing a fuel shortage. While militarily the U.S. hadn't "lost" many (if any) battles the media is focusing on the American deaths and is inundating the home population with American casualties thus causing the civilian population to cause the war to be virtually lost.

OK...I hear this topic a lot, and here is what I have developed in my head...

First off, the "fuel shortage" still remains a mystery to what is going on there. Depending on who you talk to (a person in the fuel industry or a person with no fuel-background) will tell you whether there is a shortage or not. Whether either of them are true, you have to connect the dots back to places like Washington D.C., and see how much the politicians are investing in barrels of crude oil per year before it has ever left the ground. THAT is where the fuel shortage comes from...and if you're interested, AIM me for that topic...

Both Vietnam and Iraq are being compared to one-another because of MEDIA coverage. The media is the reason why Iraq and Vietnam are being compared to one-another, and with such devastating blows as well. There was no support for Vietnam and there is definitely little support for Iraq, overall, in the country now. That is because the general public watches too much damn TV these days.

Too be honest, the only anyone is ever going to be able to compare Iraq to Vietnam would be to interview someone who served in Vietnam and Iraq...there you would get the most accurate story.
