Horses in the Military

Postby Spazz Maticus on Thu Sep 18, 2008 1:55 pm

Are there an militaries today which still use horses as part of their combat forces?
Watching a documentary on the Russian battles against the Germans in WWII I was amazed by the number of horses that were still in use.

I know that U.S. forces sometimes use them in Afghanistan...obviously because a vehicle can't get up in those mountains.

Mules are used in some mountain locations, and as FM stated the U.S. is using them in Afghanistan some, that being sid, I don't know if they are kept active or just bough when situations require them.
