General discussion etiquette

Postby KnightTemplar on Thu Aug 02, 2007 11:21 am

Be nice. We're all here because we appreciate different aspects of the military. Some members will have been researching these topics longer than others. Calling such beginning members "n00b", "newbie", or other derogatory names just because they're beginning their journey is generally frowned upon.

Don't copy and paste entire pieces of content from other websites. In many cases, if that content comes from a news source, such activity is copyright infringement. In addition, it makes no sense to duplicate something here that exists elsewhere. If you see something that should be discussed here, just post one or two paragraphs, then the link. We may delete these posts without warning, and if you are found to repeatedly engage in this activity, your account could be suspended, or penalized. (If information is not able to be accessed by others this may be suspended for the one post, assuming you get prior permission from me, Forestry_manDCNR07, or Nullified Knight) (you may also get prior permission from the author/copyright holder of said material e-mailed to both yourself and Administrator@military-power.net)

This is a written communication medium, so it makes sense to format your posts for easy reading for everyone. Here are some general guidelines:

1) Be polite. Treat your fellow Military Power members with respect, and your time here will be rewarding.

2) Don't create your entire post as one paragraph, break things up into separate thoughts.

3) Use the bold function sparingly. Use it to highlight important thoughts and not entire posts.

4) Try and spell-check and get your grammar/syntax correct. Very often, your credibility will be judged by how well you present your thoughts as a well-written post.

5) Most of all, do not use ALL CAPS in posts and thread titles.

6) Try to avoid internet slang and acronyms that are so common in text messaging these days, a few extra letters and spaces won't kill you.

7) This is a board for the furtherance of support for service members world wide, While some areas may encourage friendly "jabs" at specific branches or countries, those should be limited to the respective sections of the forum and not taken beyond "Friendly jabs".

When responding to posts with the QUOTE button, please edit the quoted portion to the minimum amount needed to reference the post. This is plain forum etiquette as it helps to create a thread flow that is easier to read and follow.

I would like to comment on this topic. During the times that we are currently in, we will all have negative thoughts about other races, ethnic backrounds and such. Each member should take extra care to avoid using any words which may be offensive to users who may live in the Middleast, Asia or even here in North America. As I have come to learn, this site is not about the U.S. Military....it is Military Power. It gives hope and support to ALL countries who have their own overwhelmed with war and chaos. Those other countries may include some who others would think negatively about. I have to give ultimate credit to KnightTemplar, because him creating this site gives a stand that we do not have to all go to war with each other, and hate each other, but maybe get other people on the other side of the world to step in and support their own causes and beliefs, and that should include Military support. Their are people in this world who are basically forced into the military by their government, and we should be there to give them the support and encouragement to endure it.

Sorry for rambling, please I think many should comment on this, so that we can have all opinions brought up on this subject.

Just from reading some of the stuff on here so far, it seems this one needs to be dusted off and enforced a little better. But I'm just a newbie here so what do I know?

Well I'm glad this is here, but apparently some people have seemed to overlook this topic. Please read the powered-exoskeletons-t958.html

Powered Exoskeleton posts, and I apologize because I may have overstepped my boundaries.

I know. #1 and #7 seem to go hand in hand, but both seem to be ignored (or at least overlooked), and yes, I freely admit I have been known to push #1 to the limits (and probably crossed the line once or twice), but I try.

I will not try to go over these rules. My goal is not to make enemies on here, I like being friends with everybody.

Then why do it?

That same argument could be used for basically any of the violations of etiquette.

Very true. The important thing is that every should try and remember the rules.
