What do you think is the best CAS aircraft (fixed wing or otherwise) of all time?

Wow. Surprised the Fairchild-Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II wasn't included in that list. It would be my top pick, hands down.

Well it would have been on my list, if it had not been for the dreadful Matty Hull incident which led to my country's WWII Veterans being publicly insulted on a prime time News broadcast. The A-10 will forever more be associated with that outrage.

So because of a "friendly fire" incident you condemn the aircraft? I suppose you need to condemn the spitfire, Triton class submarines, Fairey Swordfish, Hawker Typhoons, the Type 42 destroyer, and the Challenger 2 tank as well as they were all involved in friendly fire incidents. You really shouldn't condemn the aircraft for such things, you should condemn those who insulted the veterans (presumably the media? I don't know. I wasn't there.) or the pilots (assuming they were indeed rouge and not just because some medical examiner said they were to blame), but not the equipment.

On a separate note, is this the source of your contempt of Americans (judging by tones of previous posts (some of which have since been deleted either by yourself or an admin) I have to assume you do feel contempt for Americans (correct me if I am wrong))? I may have just joined, but I've been watching this forum for a while.

First, I think, if I understand Hobiler right, it isn't the "friendly fire" incident that causes the problem so much as the fallout from the incident (namely WWII Veterans being publicly insulted on a prime time News broadcast). I'm not entirely sure what was said by whom to insult them, but regardless, Veterans as a whole should recieve the utmost respect (unless they do something deserving of a loss of that respect, and then, only the one(s) in question).

Second, I don't think that this is the place to bring up your "seperate note". That should be done in the privacy of a PM (IMHO)

Sorry, I'll be more careful about that in the future

Just by the merit of the aircraft, I'd say the A-10 and the Mi-24

Yeah, the Hind (especially the Hind-D) is excellent there too (and the Sound of a Hind instills fear (from what I hear)). I had forgotten about it.
