Battle on Hill 875

Postby count1man on Sat Aug 30, 2008 5:55 am

The battle for Hill 875 took place in the Vietnamese Central Highlands during the Vietnam War. It was fought between 2nd and 4th Battalions of the 173rd Airborne Brigade, U.S. Army and the North Vietnamese Army(NVA)from November 19 to November 23, 1967. It was one of the costliest engagements of the war. Of the 570 U.S. troops involved in the attack on the hill, 340 became casualties.

This would not be the hill which Hamburger Hill was based off of was it? It was a movie made not too long ago. Good to see you back count1man.

It's been a while since the lst time I watched Hamburger Hill so I can't recall if there was a direct reference to the hill in the movie. So I did a little googling anc came up with this description from IMDb of the movie "Hamburger Hill".....

A brutal and realistic war film focuses on the lives of a squad of 14 U.S. Army soldiers of B Company, 3rd Battalion, 187th Infanty Regiment, 101st Airborne Division during the brutal 10 day (May 11-20, 1969) battle for Hill 937 in the A Shau Valley of Vietnam as they try again and again to take the fortified hill held by the North Vietnamese, and the faults and casualties they take every time in which the battle was later dubbed "Hamburger Hill" because enemy fire was so fierce that the fusillade of bullets turned assaulting troops into shreded hamburger meat.

That would put Hamburger Hill some two years after the battle for Hil 875.

Yeah, I watched it right after my last post on this topic. So that clears things up.
